Instagram Insights gives users the ability to see things like reach, demographics and a variety of other data points you can use to improve your Instagram strategy.
Instagram gives you insights into your followers, their gender, the age range and a variety of other factors that are very helpful for marketers. Information like this is very valuable to marketers because you could see what demographics you’re reaching and also see if that’s aligned with the focus of your company and the people that you’re actually trying to reach. You can also see where your followers are located which is really good for targeting purposes.
As shown below, you can also see when your followers are most active – which days and which times.
To see and use Instagram Insights, you must have an Instagram account and switch to a business account. Here’s a quick rundown of why you should do that and use Instagram Insights.
Instagram business features
- The Instagram Insights
- The swipe-up feature for stories (you must have 10,000 followers in order to have this option.)
- Contact button (there are so many options here, how people can get in touch with you. You can have people text you, email you, or get directions. And it’s right here in your profile, which makes it super convenient for people to reach you.

How to see the Instagram insights
There are two ways to view your Instagram Insights. The first one is to view by individual post. So if you tap into a post, you will see view insights. And then, you will see your likes, your comments, and your saves. Also, you see your profile visits and your reach. Remember, this is for your individual post and not your account.
The second way to view your Instagram Insights is to tap into insight bars.
And then you will see your activity, your content, and your audience– all kinds of information here.
So when you tap into the Audience, scroll down to the very bottom. And you’re going to see your followers, activities with the exact time.
Pay attention to Reach vs. Impressions in your Instagram insights. Reach, is the number of unique users that saw your post. And it stays the same even if a user went back 10 times to see it.
Impressions mean the total number of times that your post has been seen. So if the same person checks out this post 10 times, the number of Impressions is 10.
If your Impressions are much higher than your Reach, it’s a sign that your audience is viewing your content multiple times. And as you can see, they are loving this particular post.
Why does this matter?
With a solid understanding of your Instagram Insights, you will know who exactly you are attracting to your page, when those users are online, what kinds of posts result in the most engagement, and exactly when to post on each day for the best possible engagement from your followers.
